As explained, the most important thing for long term control is to remove anything you think they could be using for food. Once the sinks and garbage areas are cleaned and you believe the bulk of any food items have been removed, use the GENTROL AEROSOL for breaking their reproductive cycle and the FLYING INSECT KILLER for getting any adults lingering around from time to time. In some cases having a FRUIT FLY TRAP can help in areas which are too sensitive to treat every day. But the real key with this pest is getting them where the are reproducing.

Fruit flies seem to appear when it gets warm in the summer. They love many of the same summertime fruits and vegetables we all like to eat and once inside the home, can live in a lot of different locations. The first key is to remove anything organic they might find attractive. If you see them hanging around the garbage disposal, that's probably because there is some kind of food buildup which they're smelling. Give it a good cleaning and be sure to watch other areas around the home like trash cans, fruit bowls and house plants.

That being said, a good treatment with some GENTROL AEROSOL will do a great job at breaking their life cycle. Be sure to get all the local landing areas where you've been seeing them. Actually, there is no "chemical" in the FRUIT FLY TRAPS. The trap is really only that; a trap. Fruit flies enter but cannot escape so they are effectively controlled. Though this will help reduce local activity, in most cases you'll need to do some kind of fruit fly control as explained in our FRUIT FLY CONTROL ARTICLE.

Most likely fruitflies. They are small and like to hang around fruit, vegetables and other organic matter or food stuff. The key to getting control of the problem is to first identify where they might be nesting and remove any of the food they need to reproduce. Once this material has been removed, a good treatment using the products listed in our Fruitfly Control article should keep them under control.

Fruitflys are a seasonal pest that will be seen mostly when it's warm. Brought home with most any kind of produce, they are persistent once established in any building. One of the most effective ways to stop them getting out of control is to treat ahead of time with some Gentrol Aerosol. This is a growth regulator which prevents the eggs from maturing properly which means any you bring home won't be able to establish a complete breeding cycle. This is key if don't want to get the infestations it sounds like you're used to having. More information resides in our Fruitfly Control article with some other treatment options  but if you're wanting to do something now, before you have a problem, the Gentrol would be your best option.

Fruitflys are unique in that they can breed in hidden locations off the food and garbage. When the larvae get their full, they'll migrate away from the garbage and find nooks and crevices where they can pupate (change into adults). That means even though the garbage isn't there, the pupae will be able to hatch out adults and that will always be true until you use something to kill the eggs.

Killing the eggs requires the use of Gentrol Aerosol as explained in our Fruitfly Control article. But keep in mind the important place to apply it is not the garbage pail itself but instead to all the areas around the pail. I would focus in on the inside of the cabinet where you keep the pail. I'd also treat the surrounding spaces. All it takes is a few making it far enough away to where your treatments haven't reached. These few could easily continue the cycle and I'm sure that's been the case. Get the Gentrol applied and you should be able to break the cycle once and for all.

In our article on Fruit Fly Control you'll see one of the products we feature is Gentrol Aerosol. Apply this in the areas where fruit flies have been active or where you think they might want to go to lay eggs. Gentrol will last a long time and it will essentially prevent their eggs from being to grow normally. This will keep them from getting established in the home and should do the trick even if you bring home some with your fresh produce.

Compost piles are prime locations for fruitflies. They love the organic matter and when it's both warm and moist enough, they will move in and start living quite comfortably and compost infestations are pretty normal. There are several options for treating the compost and since you want something non toxic for fruitflies, I would say the Diatomaceous Earth or Flying Insect Killer Aerosol would do the job. Both are organic and made with natural ingredients and won't affect the compost in any way so you can still use it. The Diatomaceous Earth should stop the cycle quickly but it won't last long. You may have to apply it once a week. The aerosol will only last a day or two but if you use it daily, you should be able to keep the adults down to a minimum and it won't take much to get quick control. It could be a combination of fruit flies coming home with the bananas as well as some that are already living at your house. I suggest you treat with some Gentrol as explained in our Fruitfly Control article. Next, set out some Fruitfly Traps but do this when there are no bananas in the house. Don't get any new bananas from the grocer for at least a week. If you see some fruit flies coming around the traps, you know the problem is somewhere in the house. If you treat good, a combination of the Gentrol and the traps should resolve the infestation. If you don't see any around the traps after a week, get fresh bananas and be sure to wash them good as explained in our article. If you are able to wash the bananas clean, you should be able to minimize the eggs and pupae you're bringing home which in turn should keep the adults around the house minimal.

Planters can become a nest location for fruit flies but in most cases, they'd prefer some type of food on which to lay eggs. Unless the soil is very moist, it's more likely they've found a location by the garbage pail or sink-erator. To be sure, the best thing to do is to remove the planter for two weeks to see what happens. If the fruit flies disappear once the planter is removed, then it's obviously the culprit and you can treat it confidently knowing your effort should solve the problem. If the fruit flies still persist even after the planter is removed, then you know you need to find the real source of the problem.

Once found, treat with the Gentrol for long term control. The PT-565 can be used to kill off any adults that are still active or you can opt to use one of the Fruit Fly Traps listed in our post on Fruitfly Control.
